As they're talking about Hakuoro's supposed crimes, Hakuoro's inner beast partially awakes, scaring Orikakan near to death. As he turns to flee, an arrow pierces his neck, killing him instantly. Positioned on a cliff overhead, Niwe laughs at the sight, just as Touka arrives, saying that he only used Orikakan to agitate Hakuoro, and that he'd served his purpose. It is inferred that Dii implanted false memories into Orikakan and manipulated his emotional state, so that he'd hate Hakuoro and try to kill him, all most likely, at Niwe's suggestion. After Touka is released from the dungeons, Hakuoro turns over Orikakan's body to her, to be buried in his own land, saying that he was simply one of Niwe's many victims.
